In the Ötztal Valley you will find trails as far as your feet will carry you: take an easy walk to one of the many charming alp and mountain huts, follow the ancient cross-boarder trails to the neighboring South Tirol or a challenging tour to the Eternal Ice of the Gurgler Glaciers.

follow the tracks of natural history along the wonderful trail past the 200-year old Zirbenwald stone pine forest. The theme route leads past the scenic Rotmoos waterfall to Schönwieshütte mountain hut. You will also visit the 6000-year old high alpine marshland in the Rotmoostal valley.

Garnet Hike
heading towards Gaisberg and Rotmoostal valley along the Glacier Theme Trail, crossing Mutsattel saddleback. The finding places of the typical Ötztal Almandin garnet have always been attracting mineral collectors. With a bid of luck you will find one of the gems hidden in the mica-slate rocks.

Piccard Hike
across the Gurgler Ferner glacier to the landing place of Prof. Auguste Piccard's stratosphere balloon in 1931. Ascent to Karlsruherhütte mountain hut and Schwärzenkamm ridge towards Hochwildehaus mountain shelter (2.900m). The trail down across the Gurgler Ferner glacier and along Ramolweg trail gives an insight into the region's varied Alpine flora.

"Secret boarder crossing" on the former smuggler's trail to the idyllic South Tyrolean pasture lands. Take the bus to Hochgurgl and start your hike along the slightly to moderately ascending trail to the Königstal valley and the Königsjoch saddle offering breathtaking views of the Alpine scenery - among them the Southern Alps, the Dolomites, the Rosengarten and Langhofel peaks. Return by hiker's shuttle bus via Timmelsjoch pass.

The 400-kilometer long trek comprises 22 stages with 15 alternative routes and has a total elevation gain of 30,000 m over the length of the trek. It can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be: each stage has an access and an exit point thus allowing you to walk as many stages as you wish.
